Ways To Add More Fruits And Veggies To Your Diet

Yes, most of us should be eating more fruits and vegetables. The American Cancer Society suggests we eat at least 2.5 cups every day, focusing on the most colorful ones, as they tend to have the most nutrients. While some of us have no problem working fruits and veggies into every meal, it can be tough for the rest of us to get this much produce into our everyday diet. With some creativity and clever planning, it's actually pretty easy to add healthy foods into our daily lives.

The following four tips will help:

1. Breakfast Ideas

  •  If you usually start your day with a couple of free-range scrambled eggs and wheat toast, consider adding some sautéed veggies to the eggs. To make things easier, prepare several days' worth of the vegetables ahead of time and then just add some into the pan each morning. Veggies that go great in eggs include broccoli, mushrooms, bell peppers (in a variety of colors), red onions and small cauliflower chunks.
  • If you are a cereal eater, slicing an organic banana on top of your organic granola or flakes is a perfect way to add more fruit to your day.

2. Snack Suggestions

  •  Try those grab-n-go pouches of organic applesauce that are now available at many stores—some also include other fruits like cherries, bananas and peaches, and they don't even require a spoon to enjoy them.
  • For work, bring along a small reusable container filled with baby carrots and enjoy them dipped in hummus or spinach dip.
  • Drinking your fruits and veggies is another terrific way to incorporate more healthy foods into your diet. You don't have to invest big bucks in one of those pricey blenders to enjoy the health benefits of juicing. Walmart carries a variety of NutriBullet systems, which are ideal for juicing as well as making tasty smoothie; at reasonable and affordable price.

3. Lunchtime Tips

Many individuals think eating endless salads with an apple or orange for dessert at lunch is the only way to add more fruits and veggies to your midday meal. But there are other tasty, creative and interesting ways:

  • Try a cup of hearty veggie soup made with a variety of organic ingredients and with a tomato base instead of chicken or beef stock. Oh My Veggies features a roundup of soup recipes that are chock full of veggies.
  • Or add a few heirloom tomato slices and lettuce leaves to your sandwich, and serve it with organic veggie chips and homemade guacamole.
  • Instead of water or another beverage, try a vegetable juice or small glass of tangy organic apple cider.

4. Dinner: Grated Is Great

It's easy and even fun to find ways to add in extra fruits and veggies to traditional entrees.

  • Try shredding and grating different types of produce and then mixing them into your favorite recipes. Finely grated zucchini and carrots add moisture to meals like turkey meatloaf or grass-fed beef burgers.
  • You can also add pureed cauliflower to mashed potatoes .
  • Use spaghetti squash instead of traditional wheat pasta the next time you have a hankering for spaghetti and meatballs.

Plenty of fruits and vegetables are such an important part of a healthy balanced diet that adds raw fiber and so much nutrition.  To live a healthy green lifestyle make sure that all foods you eat are organic or locally grown, GMO-free, no pesticides or chemically laden factory engineered processed fake foods. I believe it is vitally important to teach our children how to eat healthy so that they have a fighting chance at a healthy long-life in a world that is filled with chemicals and toxins. Using some of the tips above can help you and your family on the road to good health.
